Lead Unity Developer - AR / VR

Toronto, Canada

Unity Software Developers collaborate with Business and Quality Analysts, Designers, Project Managers and more to design software solutions for XR (AR/VR/MR) devices that will create significant change for our clients. They listen thoughtfully to understand the context of a business problem and write clean and iterative code to deliver a powerful end result. By balancing powerful opinions with a willingness to find the right answer, Software Developers bring integrity to technology, ensuring all voices are heard.

Job responsibilities

  • You will champion best practices like writing clean and reusable code using practices like TDD, SOLID principles, OO design, and pair programming
  • Work in a distributed teams environment, collaborate and communicate across teams to get delivery done on time
  • Contribute and drive solution, design and outcomes in a multi-vendor setup
  • Help in resolving ambiguities in tech and research area items by proactively building prototypes
  • Take ownership and accountability beyond individual deliverables, always pushing the envelope to deliver awesome results for our clients
  • You will partner with other technologists from cross-functional teams 
  • You will work in collaborative, product-focused teams to build innovative customer experiences and create meaningful change for a variety of clients
  • Hands-on coding, usually in a pair programming environment 
  • Learn, digest and subsequently apply the latest technology thinking from our Technology Radar to solve client problems

Job qualifications

Technical Skills

  • Experience in developing runtime Plugins for Unity Player (Android / Windows)
  • Experience in developing Android Mobile applications using Kotlin / Java (NDK nice to have)
  • Experience in Android Build tools and IDE such as Gradle and Android Studio
  • Experience in Object-Oriented programming and Domain Driven Development
  • Experience with graphics and optimizations in real-time 3D environments
  • Exposure with scripting, textures, animation, GUI styles, and user session management for Unity
  • Experience of mobile apps using ARCore AND/OR ARKit
  • Experience with game physics and particle systems
  • Experience in writing Edit mode and Play mode Unity tests for Unity
  • Experience in Performance profiling and optimizing unity applications on device

Professional Skills

  • You thrive in a collaborative, flat environment that values transparency, openness, feedback and change
  • You have a passion for learning and sharing knowledge and a desire to create the right solutions for business problems
  • You're resilient in ambiguous situations and can approach challenges from multiple perspectives
  • You have experience with Agile, Lean and/or Continuous Delivery approaches such as Continuous Integration (Jenkins / Bamboo), TDD, Infrastructure as Code, etc.
  • Great OO skills (C# or Javascript), including strong design patterns knowledge
  • Exposure in implementing automated testing platforms and unit tests
  • Exposure on ARVR devices such as Lenovo ThinkReality, HoloLens, Oculus, Gear VR or Magic Leap

Travel

While we’ve traditionally been a traveling consultancy, we have adopted a hybrid working model with the majority of work being completed remotely from either home or local Thoughtworks offices.
