Name: Vijay Iyer
Pronouns: He/Him
Role/Title: Principal Consultant, Head of Delivery
Describe your experience so far at Thoughtworks in one or two words: Exhilarating, always evolving
What does your job involve?
As head of delivery, my job involves bringing transparency into the level of delivery risk we carry in our portfolio and working with other functions to proactively address these risks before they impact engagement health.
What is the most rewarding aspect of what you do?
I get to interact with delivery teams across the APAC region, help them with their delivery problems and learn new things along the way. But most importantly, I get to influence the way clients do business and make a positive change for customers and end users.
We’d love to hear about your career journey. Can you talk about what led you to Thoughtworks and your decision to join Thoughtworks?
I’ve been with Thoughtworks for over 17 years now. Back in 2004, when I was tired of working by myself writing monolithic requirement specifications, my roommate recommended that I apply to Thoughtworks. He said that Thoughtworks uses Agile methodology, and I’d get to actually work together with the delivery team and clients to build software. I decided to give it a shot, got hired and never left!
What has been your favorite part of your Thoughtworks career to date?
What I love is that the company hasn’t boxed me into a particular role and set of responsibilities. As my professional and personal needs and aspirations have evolved, Thoughtworks has accommodated me with different roles, different clients and different geographies. I have lived and worked in 5 countries across the globe. also love that we allow and encourage diversity of thought, and give teams the flexibility to work the way they feel best, within the boundaries of the Agile fundamentals and client needs.
What advice would you give to anyone thinking of joining Thoughtworks?
The greatest thing you come here for is the people. It is the smartest and most client focused bunch of people I’ve ever worked with.
Anything else that you wanted to add about your Thoughtworks journey?
I believe a job becomes monotonous when you are no longer pushing yourself. At Thoughtworks, I feel I’m still learning new things everyday, and becoming better professionally and personally.
