Action beyond targets
As millions of people around the world take action in the Global Climate Strike, Thoughtworks is formalizing our climate strategy, starting with a commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative. This is the next step of our journey, and we also commit to sharing this journey openly here in the hope that the lessons we learn can help others move forward.
The business community can play a crucial role in minimizing the risk climate change poses to the future of our planet. We call on our partners, clients and all tech companies who are not yet considering their actions in the global climate crisis to begin now.
At Thoughtworks, we always endeavour to see the world through others' eyes, and we advocate passionately for social justice. We believe that climate change impacts everyone, but has the most devastating impacts on marginalized people.
So we’re not just stopping at making a commitment to the Science Based Target Initiative*. We’re looking at our climate strategy holistically, to better understand how we, as a tech consultancy, can play a unique role in addressing climate change. From creating a platform for the engagement of our employees to convening our peers for industry-wide conversations about the role of tech in this work. We are determined to lead by example and use our influence to awaken the tech industry to the role we can all play in averting crisis.
We want to make our journey transparent, and intend to share regular updates about what we’re learning and how we’re progressing towards our goals. We’ll share those stories here and hope that you’ll engage with us along the way.
Thoughtworkers are actively involved in the global ClimateAction.tech community and we encourage you to join for thoughtful conversations about specific actions we can take as technologists.

We’re committing to reducing our emissions with Science Based Targets
-
*Science Based Targets is a joint initiative by CDP, the UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute and WWF that aims to raise corporate ambition and help businesses pursue bolder solutions to climate change. The initiative supports companies to set emission reduction targets in line with the level of decarbonization required to keep global temperature increase below 2°C compared to pre-industrial temperatures, as described in the latest Assessment Reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
