Karl Brown

Karl Brown is a Technical Principal overseeing the technical delivery of Thoughtworks' project-work with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Karl brings two decades of experience leading cross-industry technical teams, paired with a deep commitment to social change. This unique blend enables him to help Public Sector organizations tackle their most complex challenges with innovative, mission-critical solutions.

In his previous role, Karl served as the Director of Technology for Thoughtworks’ Office of Social Change Initiatives (OSCI), advancing technology's role in health and social impact. Prior to Thoughtworks, he was Associate Director of Applied Technology at the Rockefeller Foundation, where he led efforts such as creating a Health Information Exchange in Rwanda and establishing Health Informatics degree programs in several countries.

Karl earned a Master's degree in International Affairs with a focus on Economic and Political Development from Columbia University, and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Stanford University.
