Strategic partnership between the Department of Transport and Main Roads and Thoughtworks pays off with new Microservices and Event Driven Architecture (MEDA) platform.
Thoughtworks, a global technology consultancy that integrates strategy, design and engineering to drive digital innovation, was selected in December 2020 as a strategic digital partner for The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), Queensland; the first strategic partnership of its kind for the Queensland Government department.
Thoughtworks was selected as a successful supplier for TMR Standing Offer Arrangement - Digital and Technology Partner and over the past six months has collaborated with TMR's Information Technology Branch to successfully establish a Microservices and Event Driven Architecture (MEDA) platform – a collection of modern, flexible and scalable tools and practices that allow TMR to rapidly build flexible business solutions following standard patterns.
Microservices enables TMR to continue to develop and invest in customer-oriented solutions faster and more cost effectively. The partnership with Thoughtworks will enable the incremental maturity of the platform and services offered, while simultaneously establishing a long-term capability for TMR.
"What worked well for us during the process was not only the ability to deliver a technical outcome but the ability to transfer knowledge from a vendor partner to our internal teams as we begin to transition to new ways of working," said TMR spokesperson, Lance Oswald, Executive Director (Business).
“Our strategic partnership with TMR is not only an exciting opportunity for Thoughtworks but also a true testament to how crucial it is for businesses across all industries to have a strong platform for innovation,” said Kristan Vingrys, Managing Director for Thoughtworks ANZ.
“We’re looking forward to building on our success with TMR's MEDA platform, harnessing this partnership and working with our experienced teams to help move the department towards a more agile and transformational digital framework,” he continued.
For more than 25 years, Thoughtworks has helped organizations and governments become market leaders by providing access to expertize, capabilities and talent they need to transform, enhance services and outperform competitors – from getting closer to customers and citizens, to building the right products and delivering value faster, to continuously learning, sharing feedback and empowering teams.
